The Role This is an exciting and genuine long-term position offering considerable variety and a clear pathway to increasing responsibility, with the potential to progress toward day-to-day operational management over time. The successful candidate will be fully involved in all essential farm and property duties across this busy mixed enterprise. A key focus will be broadacre cropping operations, encompassing planting, spraying, harvesting, and cultivation, utilising the farm's modern GPS-equipped machinery. Stock work also forms a significant component of the role, including mustering the super-fine Merino flock across the flat open downs country using quad bikes, assisting with drenching, and performing essential yard and shed work during shearing and crutching periods. Furthermore, the position requires routine operation and maintenance of all farm equipment, general upkeep of infrastructure and fencing, truck driving for grain haulage, planting, and harvest logistics, and general slashing tasks. The Employer Your potential employer is a well-established, highly productive family-owned enterprise located in the desirable Southern Darling Downs, QLD, just 5km from the key services of Millmerran. This operation successfully integrates fine Merino wool production with large-scale broadacre cropping, where every paddock is fenced and actively cropped, often utilising a five-year lucerne rotation. The cropping program includes wheat, barley, and birdseed millet, for which the company holds an exclusive contract. The livestock component involves managing a flock of super-fine Merinos (purchased as young lambs and kept for up to six years). As an employer, they are known for being a well-organised and happy workplace, emphasising efficiency and productivity, and maintaining a commitment to modern, well-maintained plant and machinery. The Offer This role presents a genuine long-term career opportunity defined by variety, continuous learning, and clear professional growth within a great work environment. A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with your skills and experience. Crucially, permanent on-farm accommodation is available for the right candidate at a nominal rent, which includes a comfortable, large two-bedroom house featuring a fenced yard, air conditioning, and a new kitchen. The successful candidate will receive dedicated support, working directly alongside the Farm Owner/Manager, to ensure a smooth transition and continuous skill development. The Ideal Candidate We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic—someone who is honest, hardworking, reliable, and proactively thinks ahead. The ideal candidate must be willing to learn and take direction, yet be comfortable working autonomously once trained, taking full responsibility for completing tasks. Previous essential experience in either broadacre cropping or livestock operations. Possession of a current manual driver's licence is non-negotiable. Previous truck driving experience (MR or HR licence) and welding skills are highly desirable. Mechanical aptitude or a keen interest in machinery maintenance is advantageous.
